Guadalajara scored after 15 minutes and held out for the win on Sunday.
Guadalajara earned a narrow 1-0 win over America in a hard-fought encounter between Mexico's two biggest clubs.

Guadalajara, who field only Mexican players, scored after 15 minutes and held out for the win on Sunday.

Chiapas's good form continued with the modest club from San Cristobal de Las Casas sweeping aside Pachuca for a convincing 3-0 victory to go top in the overall standings. Cruz Azul moved into third place with a 2-1 home win over Atlante.

Guadalajara dominated America in the first half and almost opened the scoring when Manual Sol's long-range shot was tipped over the crossbar by America goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Gonzalo Pineda scored the decisive goal when he seized on an error by America's Chilean defender Ricardo Rojas and floated the ball past Ochoa.

America brought mercurial striker Cuauhtemoc Blanco into the fray but the visitors could not find a way past the defensive scheme mounted by Guadalajara's Dutch coach Hans Westerhof.

Guadalajara came close to extending the lead in the final minutes when Ochoa tipped an Omar Bravo header over the bar.

Unbeaten Chiapas are top of overall Clausura table, equal on 12 points with Pachuca but above them on goal difference.

Alonso Sandoval was the pivotal player, scoring two of the Chiapas goals. His first was a brilliant individual effort that left two defenders in his wake.

Carlos Ochoa scored Chiapas' second by pouncing on a loose ball following a fierce shot by team mate Walter Jimenez.

The paced dropped in the second half as the players felt the effects of the wilting heat in the Victor Manuel Reyna stadium.

Sandoval collected his second from a searching cross by Paraguayan Salvador Cabanas.

Morelia got the better of Apertura champions Toluca with a thrilling 3-2 away win. Toluca have lost four games on the run, putting pressure on Argentine coach Americo Gallego.

Two goals by Argentine striker Cesar Delgado inspired Cruz Azul to a tight 2-1 win over Atlante. The Mexico City club moved to third place, three points behind the leaders.

UAG Tecos slipped to fourth after taking a 4-0 drubbing at Atlas in which Manual Perez scored a hat-trick for the home team.
