José Luis López and the young Fernando Morales netted the goals for the Mexico City side while Brazilian Sandro Sotilli scored Chiapas´ only strike.
It was Chiapas´ second loss during the Mexican soccer first division championship. However, the team still leads Group 3 with 27 points while Pumas climbed to third position on 17 points in Group 2.
Morales, who was part of Mexico´s triumphant side in the U17 World Cup Championship, sealed the three points for Pumas by scoring the winner at the beginning of the second half. His goal meant that new manager Vázquez got the perfect start to his tenure.
Previous coach Miguel España was forced to resign after Pumas´ poor showing in the Copa Libertadores in which the team failed to pick up any points in five outings. España announced his resignation after Pumas´ 3-0 loss to Venezuelan side Maracaibo last week in the tournament. |
