3rd American School Golf Scramble at El Tigre And Hollywood Auction Night
email this pageprint this pageemail usBob Cohen - PVNN

On Saturday, May 27th the El Tigre Golf Club in Nuevo Vallarta will be hosting the American School Golf Scramble Tournament. El Tigre Golf Director and good friend Jesus Carmona invited me out to El Tigre for breakfast and to meet Ileana Truqui, the president of the American School PTA. The event is actually put on by the PTA of the American School, stated Ileana a mom of three kids; 5, 7 and 9 that attend the school.

Ileana explained to me that proceeds in the neighborhood of 40,000 pesos will benefit “Busca Un Amigo”, which is a rehabilitation center in El Pitillal for kids with cerebral palsy. Last year the tournament donated 35,000 pesos to the charity which they utilized to build a therapeutic rehabilitative swimming pool for the center.

Sam Wilson and Mr. El Tigre Jesus Carmona.
Approximately 100 golfers are expected to participate in the scramble tournament. Golfers will be paired in foursomes, each of which should have a golfer that shoots in the 70’s or better along with the other three in the group. Each player tees off and the best drive is utilized for the following shot. Each player hits that ball and the best location will be used for the following shot, in which all four will hit again. Winning scores in this fun and unique format will provide for very low scores and the winning team will shoot well below 60. If any group shoots over par, it will be surprising.

Also at breakfast I was introduced to Sam Wilson, owner of the new P.V. Golf Academy located near Ixtapa. Sam recently had a Grand Opening for the academy which includes 34 driving bays, video coaching lessons, a state of the art golf simulator room with many courses, a restaurant and bar and full equipment shop. Sam also does his own custom club fitting and repairs. More about Sam at another time though.

Tee off time will be at 9:00 AM and all golfers are expected to complete their rounds by 2:00 PM, which will be followed by a free Taquiza (which is a fancy name for a taco party), served El Tigre style. After the golf and tacos, the participants will go back home, relax, shower and change for the “main event”, a Hollywood Gala Auction Night which includes a delicious dinner. The dinner and auction will be held at Club Marival, also in Nuevo Vallarta and will begin at 6:30 PM.

During dinner, participants and others who want to attend only the dinner and auction will be treated to the classical guitar music of popular Jaime Marquez. Before dinner begins, the silent auction, with over 120 items, including art, décor, dinners, furniture, services, trips and much more will be held.

The highlight of the night will be the live auction and the bidding should be hot and furious as many tremendous prizes are up for auction. They include:
• Two nights at the Four Seasons Resort in Los Angeles
• Two nights at the Four Seasons Resort in Punta Mita
• One full week in a house in Whistler, Canada
• One full week in a house in Vancouver
• A Palma Sola party for 20 people at this magnificent mansion in Punta Mita
• A full day on a private yacht for 8 people on Banderas Bay
• A set of custom made golf irons donated by Sam Wilson, valued at $700 - $1000
• An RCI free exchange week anywhere in the world
• Two nights at the Westin Resort in Houston

The amazing part to me is the fact that almost everything is donated with all proceeds going to direct services. El Tigre will donate the use of the golf course; gracias Jesus! Sam Wilson also added that anyone who registers will have free all day play at his facility with proof of entry.

Now the cost to enter; which include the round of golf, the “Taquiza”, and the banquet auction is only 1600 pesos for a single golfer or 3000 pesos for a married couple. Seems like a lot of money, but for anyone to only go out and play El Tigre, the cost would be higher than the entry for the tournament, which includes the banquet and auction. If anyone only desires to attend the banquet, the cost is only 400 pesos. I just might pick up a set of clubs and join the fun as well.

To register or for more information, call Ileana at cell phone # 044-322-294-1151 or one can email her at iletruk@yahoo.com. Gracias to Jesus and Ileana and it is always wonderful to see a classy event benefit local kids in need.
