Mexican Government to Expand Puerto Vallarta Cruise Facilities MarketWatch
| Last year, 259 cruises arrived at the port, bringing nearly 530,000 passengers and generating about $35.8 million in revenue for the area. | The Mexican government plans to invest 273.4 million pesos ($24 million) to build two new berths at Puerto Vallarta big enough to receive 300-meter-long cruise ships, the port administrator said Wednesday.
Francisco Martinez said he expects cruise ship arrivals at the Pacific resort town to triple, which should translate into an additional MXN400 million in revenue per year, or a 30% increase, for the port and city, according to a ministry press release.
Last year, 259 cruises arrived at the port, bringing nearly 530,000 passengers and generating about $35.8 million in revenue for the area.
The port expects the number of landings to top 220 again this year and 260 in 2007, with passenger traffic exceeding half a million.
Cruise lines that stop over at Puerto Vallarta include Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises, owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL); Carnival Corp.'s (CCL) Princess Cruises and Holland America Line; and the Norwegian Cruise Line. |
