Mexican Conservative Pushes Ahead in New Poll Reuters
Mexico City - Mexican conservative presidential hopeful Felipe Calderon jumped ahead with an 11-point lead in a new opinion poll on Friday that differs from other recent surveys that show a tie with his leftist rival.
The opinion poll, by the GEA-ISA firm, gave ruling party candidate Calderon 42 percent ahead of the July 2 election, up one percentage point from a month earlier, and put left-wing Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador unchanged at 31 percent.
Roberto Madrazo of the Institutional Revolutionary Party that ruled for 71 years until 2000 trailed with 26 percent.
Calderon surged ahead in late April to overtake Lopez Obrador and end what had been a commanding lead by the leftist, but two respected polls this week showed the two rivals tied with 34 percent each. |
