Vallarta Azteca Goes to Montreal PVNN
| At a recent presentation by Vallarta Azteca at the Los Arcos Amphitheater, both residents and tourists gathered to see the performance of this group of youngsters dedicated to the preservation of Mexico’s folklore. (Tribune) | Juan Antonio Salcedo, the Director of the University of Guadalajara's campus in Vallarta, recently announced that the Vallarta Azteca folkloric dance troupe, "Vallarta Azteca," was invited to participate in this summer's exciting Les Weekends du Monde Festival in Montreal, Canada.
Vallarta Azteca was invited to go to Montreal last year, but a dance group from the state of Aguascalientes went in its stead. "This time, they decided to create a program that would include more of Mexico’s states, so although they were looking at various other groups, they decided to invite us," said Salcedo.
He went on to explain that the Montreal Les Weekends du Monde Festival is a celebration of this vibrant Canadian city's multicultural diversity, showcasing 50 countries from around the globe over six weekends. Running from July 8th-August 13th, Salcedo's talented and hard-working folkloric dance troupe, Vallarta Azteca, will be the closing feature on August 12th, which according to Tony, is a great responsibility.
"At first, I was daunted by such responsibility, but now we are all very happy in the group. All in all, there will be 33 of us going, 14 pairs and an extra composed of five women," he said. Salcedo also mentioned that the group received an invitation to participate in the Festival de Zacatecas, but confirmation of their attendance has been complicated due to their trip to Canada. "If all goes well, we will go to Zacatecas when we return from Montreal," he stated.
The Vallarta Azteca group has dedicated this month to raising funds for its trip to Montreal through performing shows locally. Among the fund-raising events scheduled to take place in Puerto Vallarta is a Gala Dinner to be held at the Hotel Velas Vallarta on July 24th.
The cost for the three-course Gala Dinner is just $200 pesos per person, and includes a performance by the Vallarta Azteca folkloric group. For more information contact Selene, who speaks English, at (322) 226-2290 or send an email to selenem@pv.udg.mx. |
