Telmex Offers AMD PIC System

AMD and Telmex have teamed up to provide affordable internet service and systems to Mexican citizens. Telmex will begin offering AMD’s Personal Internet Communicator (PIC) systems with internet service, software and support.
PIC systems will be bundled with a monitor, mouse and keyboard and available for purchase from Telmex stores. Bundled software include word processing, spreadsheet, presentation viewer, email, media player and instant messaging applications.
PIC systems are based around AMD’s Geode GX processor with integrated DDR memory. It supports basic audio functions such as a stereo audio output and microphone input. Four USB ports are available for select printers, flash drives, disk drives and network adapters.
A modem is also built in for basic 56k internet access. Monitors are connected via a VGA output. Windows CE 5.0 is the default OS on PIC systems and comes loaded on a 10GB 3.5” hard disk which limits software capabilities. The PIC system itself isn’t too upgradeable either.
Pricing is expected around $4,169 Pesos which is the equivalent of $382 US dollars. Telmex PIC systems are only available in Mexico, though other countries and areas may have its own version of the PIC system. |
