Puerto Vallarta Hosts National Lottery Convention
email this pageprint this pageemail usPVNN

This October, over 700 delegates and representatives of Mexico's National Lottery will be coming to Puerto Vallarta to finalize the details of the final drawing to take place outside of Mexico City this year.
Throughout its 235-year history, revenues from Mexico's Lotería Nacional para la Asistencia Pública have contributed to the grandeur of Mexico. Its revenues have been employed for building bridges, highways and railroads, to promote culture and the arts and, above all, to support social programs in the areas of health and education.

Ever since the first drawing of Mexico's state-run lottery was held in 1771, Mexicans have been passionate players of their National Lottery. This year, over 700 delegates and representatives of Mexico's National Lottery will be coming to Puerto Vallarta in October for their annual convention, where they'll finalize the details of the final drawing to take place outside of Mexico City for the year.

In a recent press conference, National Lottery Marketing Director, Alejandro Kuri Lorenzo, said that everything is ready to carry out the lottery drawing, which will take place on October 20th at the Los Arcos Amphitheater in downtown Puerto Vallarta, with a total of $15 million pesos in cash prizes to be given away.

After meeting with Puerto Vallarta Mayor Gustavo González Villaseñor, Kuri said that Puerto Vallarta was chosen to be the venue for the convention because of its pleasant environment and the openness and involvement of the municipal government in facilitating the organization of the event, "which," he says, "guarantees the event’s success."

"The mayor has assured the attendance of the authorities and the general public, in accordance to the importance of the National Lottery event," he continued. "This assurance together with good coordination with the municipal authorities to see the drawing through is what makes it possible for Puerto Vallarta to be hosting the National Lottery for the second time this year."

The Mexican Lottery operates pretty much the same as most lottery games in North America. Just go to your favorite store, pencil in the little circles corresponding to the numbers of your choice, hand it to the cashier, and the machine spits out your ticket. Prizes are similar ... up to 10’s of millions of pesos for matching all 6 numbers.

Some of these tickets are sold months in advance of the drawing, so unless you’re staying in Puerto Vallarta for a long time, make sure you check the drawing date before your purchase to make sure you’ll be around to collect your jackpot! If you win "the big one," you can extend your vacation for a long time, or deal with the taxes if you decide to take your winnings back home.
