| A very familiar duo for Muay Thai events, on the left is Mexican champion Santiago Manzanarez, the Maestro of Round Dragon Gym and Carlos Solorio the Maestro Of Lanna Gym. | Carlos Solorio, promoter, Maestro and owner of Lanna Gym in Puerto Vallarta announced a unique format for the main event for the latest Muay Thai event to be held at Señor Frogs on Thursday, November 2nd at 7:00 PM. At a press conference held at La Piazzetta restaurant in Olas Altas, Solorio, joined with Santiago "Dragon" Manzanarez, Mexican champion and owner and Maestro of Round Dragon Gym presented the fight card and went over details of the unique four man championship elimination match.
Prior to the main event will be eight amateur fights, with boxers coming from seven gyms, four of them out of Puerto Vallarta. Lanna Gym, Round Dragon Gym, Gold's Gym and Tiger Champ Vallarta Gym are the local participating gyms. From Guadalajara, Mai Kheern and Memo Gomez will be making the trip as will KML Pinsinchai Gym form Irapuato.
The main event will be fought in the welterweight division and two fighters will square off against each other in three round bouts. There are some restrictions on fighting technique in the first round. The winners of the fights will meet for the CNKB Welterweight Championship in a fight that will permit more offensive weapons to be utilized.
The fighter and their respective gyms for the Cuadrangular event are, Sergio "El Poli" Castro of Round Dragon, Adalid "El Diamante" Mendieta of Gold's, Arturo "El Frances" Dumaine of KML and Ernesto "Finito" Valdez of Lanna. If these names sound familiar, all have been winning on previous local fight cards, so on Thursday something will give, as there will be only one winner.
As usual for a Solorio promoted event, Lanna Gym will have a fighter in each bout, matching against fighters from the other aforementioned gyms. Carlos' younger brother, 18 year old Hugo is on the card and has yet to lose a bout. Asking Carlos when Hugo night turn pro, he stated, "We will train and fight him for another year and give him his professional debut".
Owner of La Piazzetta, located on the corner of Olas Altas and Rodolfo Gomez, Mimmo Lorusso treated the press, promoters, boxers and the Hysteria girls to some of his superb dishes and is one of the sponsors of the event. Hysteria Dance Club was in attendance and has been sponsors for all of Solorio fight cards as well. The smaller, more intimate setting for the press conference allowed everyone to ask questions and get more insight to the Muay Thai phenomenon that is growing not only in Puerto Vallarta, but in other parts of Mexico as well.
Tickets are 150 pesos for advanced purchase and can be purchased in advance at Gold's Gym in the hotel zone or at Rabbit Accesorios on Francisco Villa, Autolavado Wawa and Le Fut in local areas. The ticket prices at the event door are 200 pesos. There will be no discounted children's tickets available, they will have to pay full price. For more information, call Carlos at Lanna Gym at 299-2317. Seats are limited and these events have sold out in the past, so enjoy a Thursday evening at the fights in Old Town at Señor Frogs. |
