Explosion Injures 6 Metalworkers in Las Glorias Area Associated Press

The blast occurred Friday in Puerto Vallarta's Las Glorias beach district, after the workers opened a valve to the building's natural gas tank, which they mistakenly believed to be empty.
The kitchen slowly filled with gas and a spark set off the explosion, said Adan Castellanos, head of civil protection for Puerto Vallarta.
The workers were taken to the city of Guadalajara, 340 kilometers (215 miles) to the east, for treatment after suffering burns on 70 percent of their bodies, Castellanos said.
The victims all hailed from Guadalajara, where the metal company they worked for is headquartered.
The blast prompted the evacuation of more than 70 workers, Castellanos said.
"Fortunately everything was brought under control," he said, adding that there was no danger of further explosions. |
