Mexican Energy to Go Private Prensa Latina
| PAN will foster the reforms needed in the current legislature to allow private investment in electricity, gas, and oil. | Mexico's governing PAN party (Accion Nacional) confirmed on Monday that opening the Mexican energy sector to private investment will be one of the priorities for the government of President-elect Felipe Calderon.
Before leaving for Ottawa to attend the 14th Canada-Mexico Inter-Parliamentary Meeting, Alejandro Galvan, Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman, said that will be one of the issues to be discussed with the Canadian government.
PAN will foster the reforms needed in the current legislature to allow private investment in electricity, gas, and oil, Galvan said.
The main objective is to obtain capital so that the government has more resources and can invest in social areas, education, and pensions, he stated.
National sovereignty is not at stake, according to him.
PAN's Santiago Creel, of the Senate Political Coordination Board, said the party will advocate a patriotic energy reform.
It is necessary to make changes, but the topic is very sensitive and needs to be approved by the nation's different sectors, Creel recognized. |
