Festival Gourmet International, the Food and Wine event that has stirred the soul of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and the culinary world for the last 11 years, announces "The Spirit of Mexico," its 12th annual gourmet festival.
This year's Festival runs from November 9th to 19th, presenting tastings, classes, international chefs, cutting edge culinary collaborations and classic cuisine, all in spectacular settings on beautiful Banderas Bay.
Puerto Vallarta boasts unparalleled natural tropical beauty, and an unusual phenomena - a concentration of some of the finest and most awarded restaurants in Mexico. Long a resort destination for beaches and golf courses, Puerto Vallarta is one of the most sophisticated gourmet destinations in the world.
Festival Gourmet International has successfully hosted a vibrant salute to the great culinary power of Mexico over the past 11 years, attracting over 35,000 epicurean connoisseurs annually.
A star studded cast of national and international guest chefs arrive in Puerto Vallarta each year for Festival Gourmet, and 2006 is no exception.
For 10 days this November, 22 prominent Puerto Vallarta restaurants will present their unique Festival Gourmet menus each evening - a palate pleasing pas de deux between their own house chef and their distinguished guest chef, paired with a celebrated international wine producer.
As well, 10 selected restaurants will each present one Chef's Table: Chef and Winemaker Dinner for a limited number of guests. In past years, the Chef's Table dinners have received glowing reviews. These evenings are made memorable by magnificent gourmet menus paired with excellent wines, in beautiful settings with great live music. During these intimate evenings, there is often an opportunity to get "up close and personal" with a favorite chef. Spaces go quickly, so early reservations are advised.
From the Welcome Cocktail party to the Gala Dinner, Festival Gourmet wends its way through the best venues in Puerto Vallarta. Enjoy cocktails and "chef talk" at the Marival in Nuevo Vallarta, and dine and dance under the stars at the beautiful boutique hotel Casa Velas in Marina Vallarta. Sheraton Buganvilias, is once again hosting the Festival Brunch, an extravagant buffet of international and Mexican gourmet delights.
Some good cheese, a crusty loaf, a bottle of wine... the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon during the Festival. No Festival Gourmet International in Vallarta would be complete without the very popular Cheeses of the World event.
The Presidential Suite of the sumptuous Casa Velas Hotel in the heart of the world class Marina Golf Course in Marina Vallarta is the venue for this year's exclusive gourmet presentation of cheese and wine.
The Master Cooking Demonstrations and Lunch are geared for both the serious amateur and the professional chef. In a bold departure from forum style classes, Festival Gourmet takes students to three exciting venues on three different days for three very distinctive cuisines, all with simultaneous translation.
Festival Gourmet knows these are the "hands on" experiences that epicures are looking for - from the student perspective of a real culinary academy to the working reality of a commercial kitchen to a tabletop oriental grill.
Cuisines to be explored are Fine Mexican, Fine Asiatic, and Fine French. Top local chefs along with their international guest chefs, will demonstrate the classic elements of each cuisine.
