5th Annual Copa de Golf Vallarta

The fifth annual Vallarta Pro Am 2006 swung into action this past weekend at two of Banderas Bay's most challenging golf courses, Vista Vallarta in Jalisco, and El Tigre in the neighboring state of Nayarit.
Twenty eight teams, each comprised of 1 pro and 3 amateurs, competed for cash, cars, plasma TVs, resort vacations, clubs, and a brand new condominium.
Twenty-four Mexican golf professionals played for $20,000 in cash prizes. First place winner received $105,000 pesos, second $50,000 pesos, $20,000 for third, and $15,000 and $10,000 for fourth and fifth respectively.
Only amateurs competed for the other prizes including a Hole in One Shoot-Out to win an $800,000 condominium at the fabulous Tres Mares Condominium Resort on the beach in Puerto Vallarta.
Copa de Golf Vallarta just keeps getting bigger and better. It was begun by a group of local Puerto Vallarta golf playing businessmen. The Tournament Committee consists of original members Luis Angarita, Jose Carranza, Fernando Cuevas, Joe Johnston, Mario Nunes, and Antonio Palacio.
These competitive amateurs, friends and golf buddies, began the tournament both to promote Puerto Vallarta as an international golf destination and to add another challenging event to the Pro Am circuit for Mexican pros and amateurs. Over the last five years, it has attracted professional and amateur golfers from Canada, U.S. and Mexico.

Golfers registered for the tournament and were welcomed with great Puerto Vallarta hospitality at the Casa Velas Beach Club last Thursday evening. Gorgeous hostesses, dancers, fire performers on the beach, and great food from Casa Velas Executive Chef Santiagoi Perez Ontiveros and his team, got the teams ready for the next two days of competition.
