On November 24th and 25th, the Puerto Vallarta Public Library, Biblioteca Los Mangos, will be celebrating ten years of bringing the joys of reading, as well as a host of literary, artistic and cultural events to Puerto Vallarta residents and visitors.
To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Biblioteca Los Mangos will be hosting a series of special events inspired by the spirits of local artist and writer Bernice Starr and city historian and author, Professor Carlos Munguía Fregoso.
More than a decade ago, these two notable Vallartans were the driving force behind the creation of the Puerto Vallarta Public Library, which today not only provides the public with a place to learn, study and enjoy recreational reading, but also serves as a venue for entertaining and educational workshops, art exhibits, concerts, and cultural events.
The festivities begin in the library's Bernice Starr Hall on November 24th at 6:00 pm with the opening of an art exhibition by Mexican painter Inda Saenz, featuring five centuries of paintings created by women from around the world.
Following the inauguration of this special art exhibition, a musical performance by the Puerto Vallarta Chamber Orchestra and a cocktail party in the library's Sala Carlos Munguia Fregoso bring the first day's celebration of art and culture to a close.
On Saturday, November 25th, the Digital Services Module will be formally inaugurated at noon, followed by the official opening of a new section of the library, Biblioteca Autor, or the Author's Library.
This new section in the library's Carlos Munguía Fregoso Hall will house a collection of books written by Vallarta resident authors, many of whom will be at the inauguration to chat with guests and sign their books.
But the library's 10th anniversary festivities don't end there... to continue the celebration, the library’s dance company, Biblos Dance, will be performing on several public stages in Puerto Vallarta every weekend throughout the month.
Offering the public free Internet, periodicals, expositions, a variety of workshops, a cinema club and some 20,000 books, Los Mangos Library is located at Francisco Villa 1001 in Colonia Los Mangos.
