Sojo Reveals Details of Calderón´s Growth Plan El Universal
| Economy Secretary Eduardo Sojo | Newly-named Economy Secretary Eduardo Sojo this week said President-elect Felipe Calderón is prepared to launch two new programs to create jobs and boost economic growth.
The first program is a housing credit for low income workers, which Sojo said would be introduced by Calderón on his first day in office.
The second will exempt employers from paying mandatory health care coverage for first-year workers, as promised by Calderón during his campaign. The aim is to give companies an incentive to hire more young workers, without having to put them into the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) the first year.
The IMSS exemption will go into effect next year, Sojo said in an interview following a meeting organized by the Confederation of Chambers of Commerce (Concanaco).
He added that the administration´s principle challenge will be overcoming 25 years of abysmal economic performance. During this period the country´s average growth has been 2.4 percent, while only 290,000 jobs have been created annually.
Calderón will take office on Dec. 1. |
