New Fifty-Peso Bills in Circulation AmbitoPV.com - PVNN
| As main security features, a transparent window and a butterfly on the top left corner stand out. | The Bank of Mexico, the country’s central bank, recently announced that on November 21st, the new fifty-peso bills will begin circulating, as part of a plan to issue a new family of bills as announced late September, 2006.
The new fifty peso notes are made of polymer and its dimensions are 66 millimeters by 127 millimeters, only two millimeters shorter than those currently in circulation.
The new bill’s predominant color is reddish-violet, and it bears the image of Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon on the front; while the aqueduct of Morelia appears on the back of the bill.
As main security features, a transparent window and a butterfly on the top left corner stand out. The butterfly is printed in special ink which changes color when the bill is moved n different angles.
The characteristics and safety devices of the new 50 peso bills will appear in posters and brochures, available in banks and stores, as well as on the web page www.banxico.org.mx.
As previously stated by the Bank of Mexico, the bills of the new family will circulate along with the current ones, which will maintain their value and will be gradually withdrawn from the circulation as they deteriorate and are received by the banking system. |
