Mexico in Tourism Activity Restoration Prensa Latina
Despite a complex national panorama, Mexico had an income of 10.81 billion dollars from tourism in 2006, 100 million more than in 2005, said authorities of the Mexican Tourism Secretary Office (Ministry).
This represents a frank recuperation in the tourism activity, affected by the social and political conflicts in Oaxaca, and the presidential elections of July 2 which reduced entry of tourists into the country.
The source said average expenses of tourists increased and direct jobs generated by the tourist sector were close to 2 million jobs.
According to official data, more than 19 million visitors entered Mexican territory, 3.2 percent less than in 2005.
The same way, air transport operations moved 33.6 million passengers through 495,000 flights, 7.5 percent more than in 2005, and even national departures increased.
On the base of these results authorities of the sector consider dynamic action of the tourism sector was evident in the generation of jobs, something that shows optimistic perspectives for 2007. |
