Death Cools Tourism in Acapulco Jorge Barrera - Sun Media

(AP/Gonzalo Perez) | Canadian tour firms and Acapulco hotels are starting to feel the economic sting of the public backlash over the death of Ontario's Adam DePrisco.
Some Canadian tour operators have been forced to suspend or reduce weekly charters to Acapulco as a result of slumping sales.
"Situations like the unfortunate one of Adam DePrisco's death and the enormous amount of media attention do not help," said Jill Wykes, SunQuest spokesman.
SunQuest recently felt the brunt of the souring over Acapulco when its partner Signature Vacations cancelled its Calgary to Acapulco charter flights.
DePrisco, 19, died two days after he was found unconscious outside a nightclub Jan. 6.
Authorities said he was the victim of a hit and run. His family believes it was murder.
Ontario's top coroner has supported the Mexican version.
"The current situation is a natural reaction to the negative press as a result of the deaths of tourists in Mexico, but we don't think it's a trend," said Mauricio Guerrero, spokesman for the Mexican Embassy in Ottawa. |
