Fugitive Arrested In Puerto Vallarta

An accused drug trafficker lived the good life in Mexico for 14 years before U.S. agents tracked him down, federal marshals said Thursday.
Jeffery Jay Warren, 57, was arrested by Mexican police as he returned to his home in Puerto Vallarta, the U.S. Marshals service reported. He was being held in Mexico pending extradition proceedings.
Warren was one of 16 people charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle with attempting to smuggle hashish and marijuana into the country by boat in 1994. Warren and three others became fugitives.
"Persistency and patience have paid off in a big way," said David Miller, acting U.S. marshal for Washington State.
Investigators have suspected for years that Warren was living in Mexico, Miller said. The Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force finally tracked him down to Puerto Vallarta, a resort on the Pacific Coast.
Warren is also believed to have traveled often during his fugitive years. |
