Corruption in Mexican Custom Offices Prensa Latina

(AP) | Mexico - Corruption in Mexico increased 5 percentual points in the 49 custom offices in the country Friday, and is now at 30 percent.
Jose Maria Zubiria, head of the Service of Tax Administration, said that despite it has been reduced in comparison with 2003, according to polls, is still over regular levels.
Pressure made by organized crime on custom office personnel is one of the three main variants of the problem.
Zuburia commented there is no method to calculate how much the index reaches.
He remembered the first poll in 2003 reflected a corruption level of 50 percent and went down to 25, but in the last poll it went up to 30 percent.
All Mexican custom offices will be modernized but there will be an advance in the main airports and bordering cities: Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, Ciudad Juarez, Matamoros and Tijuana.
Mexican custom office manager Juan Jose Bravo, said the budget to give a greater infrastructure, equipment and personnel is of 2.5 billion Mexican pesos (227 million dollars).
These entities count on a payroll of 6,300 workers, so he admitted the personnel should be more professional. |
