Bahia de Banderas Bomberos - Flying High
email this pageprint this pageemail usHarold Sokolove - PVNN

Bahia de Banderas firemen with the newest piece of firefighting equipment in the Bahia de Banderas Proteccion Civil Y Bomberos fleet.

The ladder extends to 110 feet (30 meters) and has a 1200 gallon-per-minute "water canon" nozzle near the tip.

The water cannon can be aimed and the water pattern selected from atop the ladder or from the ladder's platform on the truck.

The "pre-owned" 1988 ladder truck was purchased several months ago in San Luis Potosi.

Municipality officially received the keys to the truck during a presentation ceremony in La Cruz.
Flying High... That's probably what Anibal Guerra Garcia, a bombero from the Bahia de Banderas Proteccion Civil Y Bomberos was thinking as he climbed to the top of the ladder.

This is no ordinary ladder. It sits atop the newest piece of fire fighting equipment being added to the truck fleet of the fire department. And it's very tall.

The new truck is the only one of its kind in the entire state of Nayarit, according to government officials and is a rarity in all of Mexico, other than the largest cities.

The "pre-owned" 1988 ladder truck was purchased several months ago from Mark Vehiculos Y Equipos de Importacion in San Luis Potosi. Since then, the truck has been undergoing repairs, upgrades and new signage at Mark.

That shopping trip had also included a side trip to Salamanca to pick up the department's newly refurbished quick attack mini-pumper. (North Banderas Beat, March 24.)

The ladder extends to 110 feet (30 meters) and has a 1200 gallon-per-minute "water canon" nozzle near the tip. It can be aimed and the water pattern selected from atop the ladder or from the ladder's platform on the truck.

The truck will be parked in Nuevo Vallarta. A crew from the nearby fire headquarters will respond to the truck's station when it is needed.

A ladder truck with fire fighting capability has been long sought-after by officials of the municipality as the number of high-rise resort and condominium structures in this area multiplies.

The North Bay area of Nayarit, most of which lies within the Bahia de Banderas municipality, has been tabbed by FONATUR, the Mexican government's tourism agency, as Riviera Nayarit, and is already seeing a major influx of development dollars and the population growth and tourism potential that goes along with it.

With that in mind, the members of Asociacion de Empresarios de Puerto Vallarta y Bahia de Banderas, A.C., a businessperson's group, donated the money necessary to make the purchase.

The municipality officially received the keys to the truck on April 20th during a presentation ceremony in La Cruz. In attendance were representatives of the businessmen's group, the hotel association, the Presidente of the municipality, Dr. Jaime Cuevas, the Governor of Nayarit, Ney Gonzalez, the Director of Civil Protection, Dr. Claudio Estrada, and members of the fire department (many of whom had been on hand earlier in the day polishing the new truck.)
