Mexican president Felipe Calderón is more popular now than when he began his six-year term, according to a poll by Ipsos-Bimsa published in El Universal.
Puerto Vallarta - President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa is meeting with Governors from thirty México states in Puerto Vallarta this week at the XXXII National Governors Conference (CONAGO), a political meeting designed to formally initiate activities to deal with matters of national interest.

Private sessions with the Culture, Tourism, and Agricultural Affairs bureaus took place on Monday afternoon at the CasaMagna Marriott Hotel, where later they enjoyed a private dinner with the Governor's wives and special guests.

The opening of the conference, which was attended by México President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa and other important guests such as Pemex General Manager, Jesús Reyes Heroles, as well as the state of Yucatán's Governess elect and Government Secretary, Francisco Ramírez Acuña, started at around 11 am.

During his opening speech, Jalisco State Governor Emilio González Márquez pointed out that the last CONAGO conference, which was held in the State of Tlaxcala, was a perfect example of how working together, rather than political posturing, can produce better overall results for common goals such as National Security and the war against drugs.

"I am convinced that we will act and go beyond expectations," said the state of Jalisco mandate. "The country is demanding a deeper commitment, and nowadays, conditions are completely favorable within our National context."

He also stated that the successful and professional work of the Governor of Michoacán, who is also a CONAGO founder, is already bearing fruit, and such Governor is still playing an active role as a member and founder of the organization.

In closing, González Márquez called for all Governor's assistants to "reflect on the work to be accomplished by each and every Governor in conjunction with state commissions so that each state's issues, including fortifying relationships with foreign countries and their commercial associates, as well as dealing with problems faced by Mexicans living in other countries, can be jointly addressed."

"We must contribute to the fortification and equilibrium of the Federal strategy in relation to each Government's precinct," he concluded.

Remarks made by Sonora State Governor Eduardo Bours about Public Safety were also very valuable. At the end of the conference, all of the Governors agreed to work in alliance for a free and strong country and committed to act together for a safer México that can be prosperous in peace under Mexican laws.
