Hundreds of Central American immigrants have been arrested in Mexico since the beginning of the year trying to reach the United States.
Mexican federal police have arrested 26 Central American illegal immigrants allegedly abandoned by human traffickers, Mexico's General Attorney's Office (PGR) said Friday.

The illegal immigrants, 23 from Honduras, two Salvadorans, and one from Guatemala, were found by Federal Investigation Agency agents near a ranch in Huimanguillo municipality, Tabasco state, the PGR said.

The police found the illegal immigrants following a telephone tip-off by a local resident.

The immigrants were unable to prove their legal stay in Mexico and were transferred to the National Migration Institute in Tabasco.
