(Reuters/Larry Downing) | Las Vegas - The decision by Nevada Democrats to move up their caucuses to January 19, 2008 hasn't gotten the desired attention from the leading presidential candidates.
Not so, when it comes to Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico who has already had as many events in Nevada as the three front-runners combined, The Washington Post reported Monday.
"You're now important. You used to not be that important," Richardson told a group of Las Vegas Democrats last week.
Moving up the caucuses was intended to make Nevada an early player in the presidential sweepstakes and create more diversity.
But so far, it hasn't panned out, event-wise, except for Gov. Richardson who has held four events in Nevada hoping to make it a critical aspect in his campaign, The Post says.
Moving up the date hasn't attracted appearances from frontrunner Sen. Hillary Clinton or her chief rival, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.
But Clinton, Obama and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina have already installed state directors and field organizers in Nevada. |
