UPI Poll: Where Oil Comes From UPI go to original
| The biggest supplier of foreign oil to the United States is Canada, U.S. government statistics show, with Mexico second followed by Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. | Washington - Participants in a UPI-Zogby International poll tabbed Saudi Arabia, rather than Canada, as the country that provides the most oil to the United States.
The respondents to a June 15-18 Zogby interactive poll were asked which country sends the most oil to the United States. Saudi Arabia was named by 35.9 percent of those asked followed by Canada (16.3 percent), Venezuela (10.5 percent) and Mexico (7.6 percent). Some 22.8 percent of participants said they weren't sure.

Only the ideological subset of libertarians made Canada its plurality choice. Among the political split - Democrats, Republican or independent - the independents came closest to putting Canada first while Democrats were less likely to answer that Canada provides the most oil to the United States.
Some 8,182 U.S. residents took part in the poll, giving the data a margin of error of 1.1 percentage points. |
