Border Patrol Reports Fewer Arrests in Texas San Antonio Express-News go to original
Continuing what it's claiming to be a successful year on the front lines, the Border Patrol announced Friday that arrests of people accused of crossing illegally are down along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Statistics for the agency's third quarter of the current fiscal year, which started Oct. 1, show that the count is down 24 percent from the previous year.
Among the areas experiencing the most significant drops is the Border Patrol's Del Rio Sector, which saw a 51 percent decline in arrests.
That's attributed to that sector's push of across-the-board prosecutions of people entering the country illegally, extremely rare elsewhere for first-timers.
The agency also indicated that the arrest count of undocumented non-Mexican violators declined 48 percent, mainly due to a swift detention-and-deportation process dubbed "expedited removal." |
