The new marina at San Blas is slated to open this fall. It lies inside a basin that was formerly occupied by commercial fishing boats. (Fonatur-Singlar)
Another new marina is slated to open this fall, within the harbor at San Blas, Nayarit, said Lic. Guillermo Acosta of Singlar-Fonatur. The San Blas marina is part of Phase 3 of the Sea of Cortez Project, formerly known as the Escalera Nautica, or Nautical Stairway.

The marina will be operated by Singlar-Fonatur, and it will provide the only floating slips designed specifically for yachts between the ports of Mazatlan (120 nautical miles northwest) and Puerto Vallarta (about 65 miles south). Isla Isabela National Park and frigate refuge lies about 40 miles northwest of the San Blas harbor.

A similar 25-slip marina and fuel dock was opened earlier this year in Puerto Peasco, Sonora, in the upper reaches of the Sea of Cortez. More marinas of this type are slated for Topolobampo and Teacapan in the state of Sinaloa and at Kino Bay in the state of Sinaloa, both along the eastern side of the Sea of Cortez. Fonatur is promoting land development in Guayabitos, Nararit, about 30 miles south of San Blas.

The new marina has been in construction for more than two years. It is located in the second side basin off the harbor's main channel, just past the new Pemex dock. The basin formerly housed a large fleet of shrimpers and commercial fishing boats. For more information on the new marina at San Blas, Nayarit, visit www.fonatur.gob.mx.
