Mexican Opposition Calls for Unity in Polls Prensa Latina go to original
Mexico City - The trend "Nueva Izquierda," considered a majority within the Mexican opposition PRD (Partido de la Revolucion Democratica), called to foster the internal organization for future elections.
Broad Progressive Front coordinator Jesus Ortega stated the need of not distancing from current opposition leader Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and strengthening the PRD work to win the 2009 intermediate election and the 2012 presidential poll.
Ortega admitted that the PRD suffers from an internal ethic and political crisis and demanded to concrete the necessary reforms and strengthen the left wing to solve problems in Mexico.
The right wing in power, he warned, aims to remake hegemony and solve the current crisis with the imposition of a conservative and anti-popular project, keeping the old regime to preserve its eternal privileges.
The PRD must ratify its conviction and commitment through elections, with legal struggle and peaceful change to face the right wing's decision of not allowing the left wing to achieve majority, added Ortega. |
