Mexican Opposition Leader Calls for a Firmer Stand Prensa Latina go to original
| Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador | Mexico City - Mexican opposition leader Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reiterated his call to the Frente Amplio Progresista (FAP in Spanish) to harden its stand, as he believes it is still posible to stop the expected hike in gasolina prices.
He called on deputies of that organization to pass from statements to concrete action and carry out civil resistance actions at the parliament venue.
The goal, to prevent the application of an additional increase to the price of that fuel, approved as part of a fiscal reform package to be enforced starting next month.
Lopez Obrador said he examines the possibility of marching again on the Congress headquarters to insist on applying an alternative to fiscal changes.
This was presented by FAP, made up of the parties Revolucion Democratica, of Work and Convergencia, before the initiative sent by president Felipe Calderon.
However, the former presidential candidate is confident that deputies of the opposition alliance will do whatever is necessary to stop the increase of the main fuel, due to the strong impact on the citizens economy.
He explained that during the debate on the Expense Budget 2008, FAP deputies can propose the elimination of those expenses that only benefit the high bureaucracy. That will allow for even higher savings than that pursued by the hike in gasolina and diesel prices. |
