Championship Gaming Series Announces 2007 World Championship Business Wire go to original
Los Angeles - The Championship Gaming Series(TM) (CGS), the only worldwide professional gaming league, today announced that the League's 2007 World Championship will take place December 6-14 in Los Angeles.
At the highly-anticipated showdown, twelve top CGS teams from around the world will battle each other for a share of an unprecedented $1,000,000 total prize purse, of which $500,000 will go to the World Champion team. The World Championship event will be broadcast on television around the world by DIRECTV in the U.S., BSkyB in the UK, STAR in Asia and the Middle East, SKY in Mexico and Brazil and DIRECTV in the rest of Latin America.
The twelve teams competing in the CGS 2007 World Championship include the top four teams from the CGS 2007 Pan-Asian Final taking place October 15-18 in Kuala Lumpur, as well as Chicago and Carolina from the United States, Mexico City and Rio from Latin America, London and Birmingham from the UK and Stockholm and Berlin from Europe. The top team will take home the title of CGS 2007 World Champion.
"We are approaching a true milestone in the history of professional gaming. With CGS teams now established in five continents, we have built an unprecedented global sports league with gaming talent from every corner of the world," said CGS Commissioner Andy Reif. "No one knows which team will take home the top prize of $500,000 at our World Championship, but they will truly deserve to be called pro gaming's first-ever World Champion."
In addition to the team championship race, the World Championship event will also include a competition among the top individual players to determine World Champions in each CGS official game, including Valve's Counter-Strike®: Source® and EA's FIFA 2007, which are the two official PC games for CGS. On the Xbox 360, CGS features Tecmo's Dead or Alive® 4 (DOA4) and Project Gotham Racing® 3 (PGR3) from Microsoft Game Studios.
Each CGS team features a total of ten athletes, each specializing in an official League game. Five of the ten players comprise a Counter-Strike: Source squad which competes in five-on-five matches. FIFA 07 is played one-on-one. Each CGS team also has a mixed-doubles team of two DOA4 players, who will play against other teams in one-on-one matches on Xbox 360. The racing game PGR3 is played by two players on each team in a two-versus-two format.
