Mexico City – The challenges and opportunities of Hyperconnectivity – the emerging era of communications, where anything that can be connected will be connected – will be addressed as more than 1,000 Nortel executives, customers, partners and industry leaders meet in Mexico City to discuss the future of communications.

Hyperconnectivity is fueling huge increases in bandwidth demand because of the complexity, diversity and integration of new applications and devices using the network. According to Mexican analyst firm SELECT, approximately 8.7 million PCs out of the total 14.8 million in the country are connected to the Internet. The majority of these are broadband connections, which are expected to grow 48.3 percent from 2006 to 2007, further fueling the need for networks to support the necessary bandwidth and applications that support Hyperconnectivity.

Nortel Chief Information Officer (CIO), Steven Bandrowczak will discuss ways that IT decision-makers of small, medium and large enterprises, can prepare for the Hyperconnectivity era, to better serve their customers and employees. Bandrowczak will also host a VIP breakfast with SELECT.

"Telecommunications and IT are converging, and the key to transforming the complexities of Hyperconnectivity into opportunities is through integrated communications, networks and service capabilities," said Bandrowczak. "We believe that Mexico is in a great position to leapfrog more mature markets by putting in place the latest and greatest technologies capable of supporting powerful, high-speed networks and communications-enabled applications essential to the hyperconnected future."

"In Mexico, we are already experiencing the convergence of different functions within devices like email, IM and video as well as multiple devices per person," said Ricardo Zermeńo Gonzalez, president and general director of SELECT Mexico. "Companies must be prepared to confront these challenges and opportunities with the necessary technology, solutions and infrastructure."

"Hyperconnectivity Day allows us to share our views and expertise on the emerging unstoppable force of change that requires us to rethink how networks and applications will enhance and support society, enterprises and people in Mexico," said Pablo Vasquez, president and general manager, Nortel Mexico. "Nortel is committed to providing our customers with the ability to capitalize on the opportunities from this trend while making their businesses simpler to operate, more profitable and more competitive."

Along with strategic partners Microsoft, IBM, LG, and TELMEX, Nortel will showcase solutions at the event for Carrier Hosted Services, the LG-Nortel product portfolio, and Unified Communications, as well as 4G/WiMAX solutions.

The event will take place at Foro Polanco auditorium in Mexico City and will conclude with a concert from one of Mexico's most renowned artists, Aleks Syntek, performing live for event attendees.
