| Doogie Howser MD in Mexico? | Mexico's youngest undergraduate - Andrew Almazan - has started studying surgical medicine and psychology in university despite being all of 12! Here's a report.
Andrew Almazan is just like any freshman at UDLA in Puebla, Mexico until one sees his size and learns his age. He's just 12-years old - making him Mexico's youngest undergraduate. Almazan is studying undergraduate surgical medicine and psychology after completing his primary education when he was just 10-years-old.
University Deputy Director, Dr. Guillermo Romero, said, "He has a brilliant mind - a privileged mind. The medical professors, tell us that the courses that he'll take have new elements that no other student has, none of his other 50 classmates."
Almazan, who enjoys playing sports, painting and literature, received a full scholarship covering all of his costs at one of the most expensive private universities in the country. With Andrew's arrival, the University is creating a new center for the gifted aimed at attracting other gifted students from throughout Mexico and Latin America. |
