Top Mexican Drug Dealer Linked to Crash UPI go to original
| Joaquín Guzmán Loera ‘El Chapo Guzmán’ (AP) | Mexico City - Mexican authorities allegedly have linked the nation's top drug dealer, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, to four tons of cocaine found at a recent plane crash site.
An unidentified official from the Mexican attorney general's office said the drugs allegedly were on their way to Guzman, when the U.S.-registered business jet they were being carried on crashed in the Yucatan Peninsula last week, The Miami Herald said Sunday.
"The cocaine was to be delivered to 'El Chapo,"' the official, who wished to remain anonymous, said. "We do know it was from Colombia."
Authorities said the plane left Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sept. 18 before allegedly traveling to Colombia to pick up the cocaine. The plane was traveling back to Mexico last Monday, when it was intercepted by Mexican anti-drug forces and crashed.
The Herald said official records showed the plane had been purchased by a U.S. pilot a week before the crash, but who owned the plane when the incident occurred is unclear. |
