Mexico Has Enough Oil: Kessel Prensa Latina go to original
| Secretariat of Energy (SENER) Georgina Kessel Martínez | Mexico City - Mexican Energy Minister Georgina Kessel assured Friday that Mexico has enough oil, and adding reserves and prospective resources, it has almost 100 billion barrels of crude oil.
In an official speech referring to the decline of hydrocarbon reserves in Mexico, Kessel said in a press release that Mexico will not lack fuel for 60 years, with the current rhythm of oil exploitation, and that 100 billion barrels are located in deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
She said that exploration in deep waters means a technological challenge, since depth, pressure and temperature of the sea require a technique just as relevant as the one to send a man to outer space.
Considering the exhaustion of oil fields with easy access and existence of natural and human resources to start a new stage in deep waters, she asked for a chance in benefit of Mexico for the future times and generations.
"We must strengthen Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), widen its financial strength, renovate the infrastructure, improve administration, and transparency," she stated.
She was sorry for the accident occurred two days which took the life of 19 Mexican workers of PEMEX, and announced a governmental request to the Mexican Congress to increase the 2008 budget to reinforce security in oil installations. |
