Cassandra Shaw Meets Success with Style
email this pageprint this pageemail usTwila Crawford - PVNN

Joining Cassandra at her store are her usual companions, two Chihuahuas, Leonardo and M.J. Bean, who have their own chairs/thrones in place at the new store. They are experienced models of Cassandra´s jewelry for various promotions.
On Saturday, November 17th from 7-10 pm Cassandra Shaw will be celebrating the success of the new jewelry, accessories and clothing store she opened last October at 276 Basilio Badillo. Refreshments will be served including wine and chocolate.

For the past eight years, artist and jewelry designer Cassandra Shaw has been devoted to designing and fabricating jewelry in Puerto Vallarta. But last October, when she opened her newest jewelry, accessories and clothing store at 276 Basilio Badillo, she put the focus on preserving Mexico's culture and traditions.

Besides Cassandra's one-of-a-kind beautiful silver and stone jewelry, the store features a stunning accessories and clothing line from Pineda Covalin, named after owners Ricardo Covalin and Cristina Pineda of Mexico City.

Cassandra says, "They brought the company together to preserve the culture and traditions of Mexico. Incorporated in designs are murals, archaeological pieces, myths and legends. Each fabric has a different story depicting the history."

In Cassandra's opinion, one of the most beautiful includes monarch butterflies and their journey to Michoacan to "fill the forests with their message of love fertility." The fabric has three deep colors of rich yellow, gorgeous red and vibrant cobalt blue.

Another fabric tells the story of the Huicholes, their pilgrimages and their rituals with peyote. "The design of the cloth makes you feel you can touch it and feel the string art or beaded work under your fingertips. Of course you can´t because it is a woven piece of silk," Cassandra points out.

"Pakal is another one of my favorites," she says. It is about the Divine Lord of Palenque, where the Mayan culture flourished. It is full of symbols that convey the beliefs of the Mayan people, "a prayer for rebirth."

"I think clients are going to be very happy to be able to bring home not just a piece of jewelry but another symbol of their trip to Puerto Vallata that tells a story in a most fashionable, classical way", Cassandra says.

Joining Cassandra at her store are her usual companions, two Chihuahuas, Leonardo and M.J. Bean, who have their own chairs/thrones in place at the new store. They are experienced models of Cassandra´s jewelry for various promotions.

The artist also has a small gallery up beautiful winding stairs at the store that will display her paintings and paintings from her "kids class." Cassandra has been painting since 1985 and moved in 1999 to Vallarta from Vancouver, B.C., Canada, to become a fulltime artist. Every Saturday morning, Cassandra inspires young artists, some who have been painting with her for six years. "Each year I have exhibited the children´s art work to very successful and anticipated shows," she says.

Cassandra also is widely involved in community volunteer efforts, like hosting at Banana Cantina Celebrity FUNdraisers and donating prizes to raise funds for many other local charitable organizations, including the Los Mangos Public Library.

With her talent, generosity and glamour, Cassandra says, "There is a lot of satisfaction when someone loves your work."

Be sure to stop by Cassandra Shaw Jewelry at 276 Basilio Badillo on Saturday, November 17th from 7-10 pm to help her celebrate the successful opening of her new jewelry, accessories and clothing store. Refreshments will be served including wine and chocolate.
