Japanese welcome the year's first shipment of Beaujolais nouveau with a toast and wine bath.
A sommelier at the Kowakien spa resort west of Tokyo poured the fruity, red French wine from dozens of just-arrived Beaujolais bottles into bathers' wine glasses - as well as over their bodies.
In the past, most Beaujolais nouveau used to be exported to Britain, but now it is flown to more than 120 countries with Japan being the biggest market. Beaujolais nouveau accounts for almost 90 percent of the Beaujolais wines drunk in Japan each year.
