Hundreds Enjoy Vallarta Chamber Orchestra's Beautiful Holiday Sounds

More than 500 music lovers enjoyed the beautiful holiday sounds of the Vallarta Chamber Orchestra last Sunday evening.

Persons drew wraps close during the cool evening in the outdoor setting at the American International School. Shoulders swayed to the holiday sounds of bells, chimes, tambourine, drums, French horn, bassoon, flutes and strings.

Well-known local musician Rigoberto Mora, energetically and with flair, conducted the 20-member Chamber Orchestra, and guest choral director Nick Salmans directed the Vallarta Chamber Choir in its interpretation of Canto de Gloria (Glory Song) by Vivaldi.

From Santa at the Symphony to The Holly and the Ivy arranged and played on guitar by conductor Mora, to All is Calm (based on Silent Night) that had the audience saying "beautiful, what a beautiful arrangement," a festive mood prevailed.

A Carol Festival took the audience through familiar carols, undoubtedly bringing back childhood and family memories of our own Christmases.

The premiere of the Vallarta Chamber Choir featured 32 singers, including soloists Uiok Chaves, Sandi Lee, Nicole Martin, Kathy Overly and Lisa Schalla. Accompanist was Niina Venalainen.

Special in the audience was Edey Verdesca, who flew in from Melbourne, Australia. Her mother, musician Kathleen Hennen, now living in Washington state, and Vallarta musician d´Rachel, initiated the orchestra in 2004. The orchestra has grown to 20 after its initial five musicians. The audience has grown tremendously over the four years.

Outstanding director, Mary MacLachlan, who should be much praised for her hard and creative work, says, "The Puerto Vallarta Chamber Orchestra wishes to thank the American School (Colegio Americano) and staff for their generous support in supplying rehearsal, storage and performance space."

The next Chamber Orchestra concert will be in March 2008.
