Music of Mexico Waves Hello to Ringtone Success

A romantic Mexican song is winning the hearts of pop pickers in the Billboard hot 100 ringtone chart.

Grupo Montez De Durango are seven musical amigos, whc play a style of music known as duranguense - no, it's not a South American version of Duran Duran.

Their latest release, Adios Amor Te Vas, this week waved hello to the number three spot in the ringtones chart, climbing two places and threatening to re-take the number one spot after 43 weeks in the parade.

The group fractured several years ago, with several members forming another band - nowhere to be seen in the top 100 - after claiming their colleagues music was too 'romantic'. Several of the defecting members spent time in jail in 2006 after a legal dispute about using the Montez name.

References to jail and bust-ups are common in the top ten, which is dominated by urban and rap acts. Soulja Boy Tell 'Em's Crank That holds on to the top spot, with DJ Khaled's I'm So Hood at five and 50 Cent's Candy Shop still doing brisk business at six.
