The largest cell phone operator in Latin America is open to acquisitions outside its core region.
Mexico's America Movil, the largest cell phone operator in Latin America, is "open" to acquisitions and buying operating licenses outside its core region, said Chief Financial Officer Carlos Garcia-Moreno.
America Movil, controlled by billionaire tycoon Carlos Slim, is also "very confident" about picking up 20 million new subscribers this year despite economic doubts in the region because of the U.S. slowdown, Garcia-Moreno told the Latin America Investment Summit on Thursday (April 03). (Interview in Spanish) Speaker: Carlos Garcia-Moreno, CFO, America Movil English Translation: "We are open to participate in other regions other than the Americas. We have sufficient resources, sufficient expertise and reach to go successfully to other regions."
"The goal continues to be 20 million. We know that there are doubts with regards to the economies and the impact this could have in our growth, but we are confident that we will reach our goal."
