The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2008 Qualifier Durban has come to an end. Senegal crowned themselves African Champion after beating an absent Cameroon side 6-12, and make history by taking home the most prestigious trophy of the continent.

By scoring eight goals in the 12-minute second stanza, Senegal took the game out of reach of Cameroon and earned themselves the African Beach Soccer title.

Pape Jean Koukpaki and Mamadou Gomis Mbengue were the stars of the Senegalese team with the first mentioned taking home the trophy of MVP of the tournament.

Amadou Diop’s troops impressed at this year’s qualifier and deserved nothing less then the golden medal.

“I want to dedicate this trophy to the entire Nation and more importantly to our families who supported us all the way. I want to thank everybody who gave us the possibility to come to Durban and make history”, said an overwhelmed Senegal coach.

The shell-shocked Cameroon side will take heart from the fact that, as winning semi-finalists, they earned a place alongside Senegal at the World Cup in France in July, but for now they will just wonder what happened.

For the second time in a row the Beach Elephants finished third in the African Qualifier for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. They beat Egypt 3-6 with 4 goals by Ivorian striker Bobou who is the top scorer of the tournament.

“If you take a look at our performances over the past few days, you can see that we deserved a lot more then this third place. I’m warning the other teams for next year, because we’re coming back and this time to win the tournament”, assured the smiling Ivorian.
