First Annual PV Contemporary Art Festival
email this pageprint this pageemail usPVNN

From May 28th-June 1st, cutting edge contemporary art will become the backdrop for the city, transforming its cultural character and pushing the limits of how we see and define Vallarta during the first annual Puerto Vallarta: Arte Contemporaneo festival.

During this five day event, downtown Vallarta will come alive with art, making this one festival that art aficionados, collectors and visitors will not want to miss!

Twenty-one artists and nine panelists, some of whom have traveled from Los Angeles, California, México D.F. and Guadalajara, will be participating in this year's inaugural festival, Extended Borders: Shifting Cartographies, with the purpose of promoting a dialogue between Mexican and Los Angeles-based artists on globalization, the idea of extended borders, and hybrid identities.

The main exhibition will be held in three different galleries - Thierry Blouet Fine Art Collection, Galería Omar Alonso and Galerie des Artistes - all of which can be found on three corners of one block in downtown Puerto Vallarta.

In addition, public art projects — projected videos and installations — will be exhibited on the Malecón and on adjacent buildings, with panel discussions convening in a variety of outdoor arenas and public spaces.

As the festival grows, the hope is that Vallarta will become an inspiration for contemporary artists and that the city becomes a locus for artistic dialogue and creativity.
