Rebecca Morgan, an 18 year old film student from Edinburgh Scotland, gained work experience in journalism, writing, photography and producing video reports.

Volunteer Luke Sheldon thought volunteering to work with local publications as an intern would be a good way to learn the basics while enjoying a holiday in Vallarta.

Every aspiring journalist deserves a chance to showcase his or her new talents. And here at Puerto Vallarta's Liveliest Website, BanderasNews.com, we give everyone an opportunity to shine.

BanderasNews was recently contacted by Global Volunteer Projects Program Manager, Ariel Duenas Lopez, who sent two enthusiastic students, Rebecca Morgan and Luke Sheldon, both from the U.K., our way. They wanted to do their part by submitting articles and video reports for publication, as interns.

Rebecca is 18 years old and has lived in Edinburgh, Scotland all of her life. She has a lively personality and wants to see the world.

"I have always loved traveling and experiencing different cultures so decided to take some time off after finishing high school and visit Mexico for three months," says Rebecca. "My goal was to gain work experience in journalism, writing, taking photographs and producing video reports."

Luke Sheldon grew up near Cambridge in the U.K. surrounded by farmland, living in a small English village. He attended Portsmouth University to study Human Geography, covering all aspects of social interaction throughout the world.

He really enjoys writing and has dabbled in journalism, hoping to make a career of it, or something related to writing.

"I thought volunteering to work with some local publications as an intern would be a good way to learn the basics and to have a holiday at the same time," says Luke, "While interning in Puerto Vallarta, I have learned many aspects of the media business and see there are many options in this field."

"My next stop is South East Asia where I can hopefully find a similar situation as in Puerto Vallarta, one that gives me good a experience in an amazing country."

"It was great having eager interns on board," says Laura Gelezunas, BanderasNews video journalist. "In the U.S. it is difficult to get an internship where you actually get to do things for the TV station or paper. If you have the drive, we will put you on and to work."

Luke and Rebecca also wrote articles for Vallarta Today. They had a chance to see a variety of festivals, events and go on various tours. The journalism placement program was organized by Global Volunteer Projects, a UK based company, which provides accommodations and work opportunities with media organizations in Puerto Vallarta. Unfortunately, Luke and Rebecca will be leaving soon, but look for their contributions here on BanderasNews. Rebecca produced her first video report for the May edition of Banderas Beat.

BanderasNews offers interns a chance to experience all multi-media aspects, including writing, photography, video, marketing and sales. Our team does everything, so interns can learn a great deal - while having a lot of fun!

If you are interested in volunteering as a BanderasNews intern, please send Laura an email at VallartaDiva(at)gmail.com.
