Three or four days of this continuous drizzle inspires me to get some paperwork and office work done (and want to take naps and read!) Here are a few upcoming "events" - the majority being more "social" than healthcare since I have received numerous requests to organize "something fun to do in the summer" rather than lectures, talks, etc. So here goes:

Happy Fathers Day!

For men under 40 years of age, $2899 pesos includes:
Same as above but no PSA, Ultrasound of the prostate, Bone density study (not necessary for under 40 years.)

Wise Women Present Dolores Brittingham
At 10 am on Wednesday, June 25th at the IFC Clubhouse, The Wise Women (and men) of Puerto Vallarta will present Chef Extraordinaire, Dolores Brittingham.

If you were to ask Dolores Brittingham what she likes to do best, she would say, "I love to cook, and gourmet cooking is my passion" and like all people who love to cook she enjoys sharing it with others. And what is gourmet - a person who likes and is an excellent judge of fine foods and drinks.

Years ago she was asked by the owner of a prestigious cooking school in Seattle if she would join the staff, specializing in Mexican cooking. Not sure she wanted to take on additional activities that would add to her full time work load as a manufacturing engineer for the Boeing Company plus running a successful travel business on the side, she was finally encourage by her friends to do so. That was the beginning of her cooking career. Eventually she started teaching in her home, combining both table settings and cooking demonstrations, covering cuisine from many countries. She has been in the teaching/cooking business for over 28 years.

Dolores retired from the Boeing Company after 35 years of service, settled with her husband (Robert) in Puerto Vallarta and started Essence of Cuisine 3 years ago. At the Wise Women of Vallarta seminar, she will be discussing short cuts to take when preparing a gourmet dinner party for 8 to 10 people, including food presentation, table settings, wine, and the correctness of reciprocation - to give in return an equivalent action. We hope to see you there! No charge.

Day Trip to the Hacienda Jalisco in San Sebastian
• Friday, June 27, 2008
• $525 pesos includes transportation and lunch
• Depart 9 am and return approximately 5 pm

Let's get out of the hot and humid weather and head for the mountains! The Hacienda Jalisco is a 180 year old "fortress" - now a bed and breakfast but definitely a great getaway during the hot summer months - even if just for the day! Pablo, our chef, will be preparing one of his fabulous feasts to tickle your taste buds as you are served on the outdoor patio surrounded by pine forest and lush vegetation. You might not want to leave! Wander through the Hacienda Jalisco and feel the past - you can almost hear the "dons" and "doñas" calling to one another from the upstairs rooms to the Grand Sala. Truly, a magical place! This day is a perfect opportunity to get to know the Hacienda and perhaps, decide that you would like to return for a weekend for a respite from the Vallarta heat. Pass this on to your friends and let's have a great day! RSVP to me as soon as possible.

Horseback Riding - Rancho Charro
• Tuesday, July 1, 2008 9 am
• $400 pesos includes transportation to and from pick up point.

See a whole different (and beautiful!) side to Puerto Vallarta. Rancho Charro is known for their happy and very healthy horses. Ride through lush jungle area on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta, along a river in Playa Grande. We will stop for lunch (not included in the price) at a local restaurant (which by the way has yummy food!) Friendly guides will assist should you not have any previous riding experience - no problema! Something fun and different to do! RSVP and questions to me.

Misc. Needs-Wants-Things!
We are in need of the following items:

• Supplies for baby layettes (newborn clothes, bottles, blankets, etc.)
• Beads, shells, doo-dads for bags being made to sell, to support Los Mangos Library.
• Backpacks, school supplies, white ankle socks for boys, flip flops, toothpaste, face cloths, soap, deodorant, children's vitamins, athlete's foot cream.
• Children's books, teen books in Spanish.
• Diabetic testing supplies.
• Flannel (to make baby receiving blankets)
• Yarn (to knit baby blankets)
• Knitters!
• People who can crochet!

Group Activities
Are you here all summer? Would you like to go with a group to the movies, out to lunch, bowling, something? Drop me a note and I will keep you informed of various activities that we are putting together to create some camaraderie!

Insurance Information
If you are away from Vallarta this summer, it might be time to be thinking about your insurance coverage when you return. We have a large number of options for Traveler's Insurance - don't leave home without it! Or, any other insurance questions, please contact me!

I hope this finds you happy and healthy, wherever you might be reading this! As always, feel free to send any comments, questions, suggestions!

Happy Summer!
