“I am sure that the moment has come to evolve towards a Mesoamerican program of integration and development that will bring greater well-being for our nations in the social and economic field and in another crucial area, which is security.”
- President Felipe Calderón

Villahermosa, Tabasco - During the dinner he hosted for the Heads of State and Government gathered together for the 10th Summit of the Tuxtla Dialogue and Agreement Mechanism, President Felipe Calderón stated that from the beginning of his administration, he has worked to reinforce the Puebla-Panama Plan, giving it a new boost.

“I am sure that the moment has come to evolve towards a Mesoamerican program of integration and development that will bring greater well-being for our nations in the social and economic field and in another crucial area, which is security,” he explained.

In the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco, Felipe Calderón declared that this 10th Summit is a key moment for reframing cooperation mechanisms between countries, in order to assess what has been achieved and what remains to be done to achieve greater regional integration.

Accompanied by state governor Andrés Granier Melo, the President also referred to the approval of the Merida Initiative and said that it constitutes an important step against the international organized crime currently being suffered by Mesoamerican nations.

“I am sure that this initiative will contribute and Mexico is determined to ensure that our governments will combat and collaborate in launching a far more effective fight against the transnational organized crime that affects us,” declared President Calderón.

He also congratulated all the Central American presidents on their will and commitment to promoting projects involving joint international responsibility in order to cope with the security problem in the best possible way.

This Saturday, the President will inaugurate the 10th Tuxtla Mechanism of Dialogue and Coordination, and attend working meetings with the Heads of State and Government participating in this meeting.
