Madrid, Spain - As part of his state visit to Spain, Mexican President Felipe Calderón met this morning with Latin American General Secretary Enrique V. Iglesias at the El Pardo Royal Palace.

During the meeting, President Felipe Calderón repeated Mexico’s commitment to the Latin American Conference, which he described as an exceptional forum for consultation and coordination in the region.

The Mexican president and Secretary Iglesias also discussed setting up a Latin American Commission for the Establishment of the Independence Bicentennials, as well as the preparatory work for the 18th Latin American Summit, to be held in San Salvador, El Salvador in October on the subject of "Youth and Development." Various activities have been planned to promote young businessmen and volunteers.

President Calderón declared that Mexico is currently preparing the National Youth Program, the aim of which will be to establish guidelines to promote the integral development of youth, through the acknowledgement of their needs and the promotion of their rights, by enabling them to construct autonomous life projects, improve their living conditions and contribute to the country's economic and social development.

The Latin American General Secretariat is the organization for institutional and technical support of the Latin American Conference and Summit of Heads of State and Government. Twenty-two Spanish and Portuguese countries in Latin America participated in the Conference and Summit.
