Ulises Ruiz Supports President Felipe Calderón in Fight against Organized Crime Presidencia de la República go to original
| Felipe Calderón (R) pledged to supply all the cement floors needed for the indigenous communities of Oaxaca. | | Tepelme Villa de Morelos, Oax. - The Governor of Oaxaca, Ulises Ruiz Ortiz supported President Felipe Calderón’s determined fight against organized crime, asking him not to let down his guard to rescue Mexico from this social blight.
“You can’t afford to let down your guard, Mr. President. I will tell my compatriots that you have to have guts to do what President Felipe Calderón is doing-not letting up until he does away with the organized crime in our country which has proved so harmful to the children and families of Oaxaca and the whole of Mexico. Keep up the fight, Mr. President, the people of Oaxaca will accompany you in your efforts.
The governor trusted that the fight against crime would continue, since he has pledged to recover public spaces for the good of society, together with the efforts to combat extreme poverty in Oaxaca.
“Fighting Mexicans' main enemy and Oaxacans' main enemy involves combating poverty and today you have proven your commitment, through deeds and without demagogy,” stated Ulises Ruiz.
During the tour, Felipe Calderón said that one of his commitments is to stop Oaxaca from being remembered by many in Mexico and throughout the world as the poorest state and one of the poorest in the country.
"Extreme poverty in Mexico must become a thing of the past. We must do everything we can to enable people to overcome extreme poverty. And what does that mean? It means opening doors to allow people to escape from poverty."
He added that La Mixteca reflects the poverty the entire country has experienced, which is why we want to open doors to overcome poverty. As a first step, he pledge to provide all the cement floors required by the 57 poorest municipalities in the Mixteca region.
“I like the idea of our taking up the challenge together so that one day, all the poor households in Oaxaca will have cement floors. I wouldn't like to say that we will have finished with the problem in Oaxaca in a year, because it may take longer, but the 110,000 cement floors supported by federal government will be in place before the end of the governor's administration and obviously before the end of my administration; the houses of all the poor people in Oaxaca will have their own cement floors,” he concluded. |
