President Felipe Calderón (R)
- "We are the Latin American nation with the lowest country-risk in the international financial market"
- "Combating crime and investing in infrastructure crucial to stability"

Madrid, Spain - President Felipe Calderón invited Spanish businessmen to invest in Mexico, since it has become a strategic place for participating in economic activities.

At the Spanish-Mexican Business Congress, he declared that this invitation is designed to encourage Spanish investors to participate in the major transformation Mexico is undergoing, which makes it the best place for doing business.

“Last year, for example, we received the largest amount of foreign direct investment, approximately $16 billion euros, while this year, Mexico has overtaken several Latin American countries, including Chile and is now the Latin American country with the lowest country-risk in the international financial market,” he declared.

During his address, the President explained that Mexico’s financial solidity is derived from the battle to guarantee public security and the rule of law, since, he argued, the aim is for Mexico to be seen as country of laws in the world's eyes.

He also mentioned the structural reforms that have been promoted since the start of his administration, particularly the energy reform, currently under discussion in the Senate, about which all voices and opinions are being heard.

Spain is Mexico’s second largest trading partner, after the United States and there are currently 2,600 Spanish firms in Mexico.
