(AFP/Jung Yeon-Je) | | Two South Korean nationals freed after being held by kidnappers for nine days in Mexico will be questioned by authorities, officials said.
The two South Koreans were released by their captors Wednesday in Reynosa, near the U.S.-Mexican border, Yonhap reported Saturday.
They two are being held by immigration officials in Mexico City.
"If the result of the Mexican investigations that ended Friday shows clearly that the two were not involved in any illegal activities, then they are free to remain in the country or return home," an official said.
The two South Koreans had been with three Chinese citizens of Korean descent in Mexico, the news agency reported.
Mexican authorities said the two South Koreans entered the country legally, but the three Chinese nationals were not registered with immigration.
Yonhap said there has been speculation that the three Chinese citizens may have tried to cross the Mexican border into the United States. |
