Ever since the salmonella outbreak began in April, Mexico has been the main focal point of the investigation carried out by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Mexico has come to the defense of its own produce though, as the Mexican agriculture ministry spokesman Marco Antonio Sifuentes told Reuters on Sunday that In Mexco there has been no salmonella outbreak in recent months, and definitely not of the type of salmonella being used in the United States.
This comes as the FDA continues their full investigation to try to find a source of the outbreak.
It started with tomatoes as the man source, but has since expanded to jalapeno peppers, serrano peppers, as well as cilantro.
According to the CDC, there have been 943 reported confirmed cases to date, with over 125 being hospitalized. |
