A Benjamin hat-trick helped Brazil to a 7-1 win over Mexico and sent them through to the quarter-finals as Group D winners. The result eliminated the Aztecas, who lost 8-2 to the Seleção in the Rio de Janeiro 2007 final.
It took just 44 seconds for Brazil to take the lead. When Benjamin placed the ball to take a free-kick close to his own goal-line, there seemed little danger, but he rocketed it past Miguel Estrada in the Mexican goal. Andre doubled the South Americans' lead, before Benjamin scored another piledriver from distance.
Adrian Alvarado pulled one back for Mexico, but goals from Bruno and Bueno helped Brazil take a 5-1 advantage, before Benjamin thumped home a penalty and Betinho sealed an impressive victory.
